Apps To Boost Your Productivity In 2020

Apps can be an easy way to support your productivity

We’d all love to have more time for the important stuff in life. Whether you want to know how to increase productivity while working from home or need a little help progressing passion projects, apps can give you a handy boost.

Here are some of our favourite productivity apps to help you get organised, stay focused and build good habits.

1. Get organised

Getting organised is an essential step to being more productive. Todoist is a great task management app. It allows you to organise and sort tasks, set due dates and reminders, and track your progress on team projects. Todoist has a clean, straightforward interface that is easy to use and visually appealing. It integrates seamlessly with Gmail and Google Calendar, and you can also use Zapier to connect Todoist with other apps.

For teams, collaboration tools can be a significant boost to productivity. This is where Notion comes in. Notion provides a single platform that allows teams to create and share documents and files, view team calendars, and work on tasks together in real-time. You can even create a team Wiki to share useful policies and guidelines – which can be especially handy for new starters. It’s like having Google Docs, Evernote and Trello all in one place.

2. Stay focused

We can all benefit from some help with avoiding social media and other interruptions and distractions. According to Freedom, your mind requires 23 minutes to re-focus every time you check an email or respond to a notification. These interruptions can quickly add up to 2 hours of unproductive time a day. To combat this problem, the Freedom app allows you to block distracting and time-wasting websites and apps for a set period. You can customise your list of blocked sites, or even prevent access to the internet entirely.

If you want a more creative way to stay focused, then try Forest app. The app turns your phone into a focus timer, for between 10 minutes to two hours. Try using the Pomodoro technique with Forest, where you work in blocks of 25 minutes and then take a 5-minute break. If you manage to stay off your phone for the duration of the timer, you plant a virtual tree. If you leave the app before your focus time is up, your virtual tree will die. Each tree is added to your virtual forest. Another neat feature is that you can earn virtual coins in Forest, and use them to pay for tree plantings in real life!

3. Build good habits

To change your habits for the better, you first need to understand them and how to increase productivity. RescueTime can help you do exactly that. RescueTime runs securely in the background of your devices, tracking the time you spend on different applications and websites. It then gives you clear reports of how you’re spending your time. The reports help you to identify apps and sites that you’re wasting time on. It then lets you block those distracting apps or websites. You can also set productivity targets and use RescueTime to track your progress.

Building good productivity habits takes time and persistence. HabitShare uses the power of peer pressure and social media to encourage you to stick with your targets. HabitShare allows you to create custom habits that fit your specific goals and gives you reminders. By committing publicly and sharing your progress with your friends (or co-workers), you increase accountability. So, whether it’s taking regular breaks or staying off emails until later in the day, HabitShare can give you a little extra motivation.

Apps can be great tools to support your productivity efforts. However, even with the help of technology, our clients tell us that they need additional support to change and build good productivity habits. That’s why for more than 30 years, PEPworldwide has been helping individuals and teams learn how to increase their productivity through specialised programming and training.
